our darling 4 1/4 year old is potty training. again. She was finally all trained at Halloween after many infuriating months, then backtracked from Thanksgiving to Christmas, was dry again for 9 days, and now is back to multiple accidents a day.
I finally brought her to the pediatrician's office, to verify there was no physical cause and to get some suggestions. The rules for training two year olds just didn't seem relevant anymore! Doc says stick to positive reactions and gave me a specific example for an incentive system appropriate for a 4 yo. She also (tried to) reassure me that this does happen, and it's nothing personal, and she won't be doing it anymore when she turns five. I'm trying to think of it like learning to walk - just because the kid has the skills doesn't mean he/she is ready to do it all the time.
So she's all excited to earn the flowered socks from Target (4 dry days in a row), but had an accident at the end of the first day, and then three accidents yesterday, all of which she lied about. *sigh* maybe today will be dry day one...
